B Corp Certified Renewable Energy Firm seeks Design Team Manager in Cornwall


Total Quality Recruitment (TQR Plymouth) is working with a fast growing, multi-tech renewable energy firm that is strengthening its team due to increasing demand for its services. Offering a range of renewable energy solutions for industrial and commercial projects, with a strong client base in the South West, the company iscurrently recruiting for someone with Commercial Renewable Energy and Electrical Installations experience to be the new Design Team Lead.


About the role


Working principally from the office in South East Cornwall, with some remote working and time out on site across Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Bristol (as well as some projects further afield), youll be line manager for the design and project administration team.


Day to day this will include,

  • Leading the team in:
  1. technical sales surveys for customers
  2. design and delivery of renewable energy solutions: Solar PV, Heat Pumps, Solar Hot Water, CHP, Wind, Energy Storage and associated systems
  3. end to end project management of solutions
  4. customer engagement and relationship management
  • Providing technical and quality leadership to the whole team, supported by in house technical specialists.
  • Providing Quality Control & Assurance of compliant designs and installations.
  • Leadership, guidance and training of the design and admin team.
  • Ensuring team tasks are completed on time, on budget and to a high standard.
  • Being hands on in the completion of more complex projects.
  • Provide quality assurance and QS function for design, specification and compliance of projects

Solutions Design

  • Development of system drawings and schematics
  • Development of performance calculations (power output, CO2, energy, heat loss)
  • Development of initial designs & quotations
  • Development of detail designs (post contract award)
  • Development of standardised designs
  • Production of installation specifications & drawings

Project Management

  • Development of project schedule and detailed project plan
  • Specification and procurement of all materials and equipment
  • Produce method statements and risk assessments
  • Job tracking and reporting including cost and schedule analysis
  • Secure 3rd party approvals (e.g planning, grid connection etc.)
  • Oversight and review of structural surveys

About you

The desirable qualifications for this role are:

  • NVQ Level 3, or equivalent experience in Engineering and Design.
  • Renewable Energy Engineering (Degree or Applicable National Occupational Standards)
  • Solar PV & other renewable energy design qualifications

To be successful in this role, youll need to be a proactive, well organised and results-oriented professional with an unwavering commitment to delivering quality solutions. As a team manager, youll motivate and lead from the front, with clear and positive communication and respect for colleagues, customers and suppliers.


Experience and proficiency in drafting reports and technical documents is essential. Youll also be able to accurately quality assure all design products and reports.
