Accountable To: Home Manager

Principal responsibilities of the Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN)

  • Assessing new potential residents into the Home
  • Involved in admissions and discharge planning of residents in the Home.
  • Booking external reviews such as: residents care reviews, medication reviews and mental health reviews
  • Booking health care appointments for residents e.g. GP, dental, eye tests.
  • To attend health appointments for more complex health related cases.
  • Act as key worker for nominated residents (the more challenging resident in the home) by planning, assessing and evaluating Care Plans and Risk Assessment and carrying out weekly key worker sessions
  • Follow up to ensure care plans are being carried out in the day to day residents’ care.
  • To monitor and manage the changing needs of residents and to bring these to the attention of staff team, Home Manager and the multi-disciplinary team
  • Conduct bi-annual/annual internal reviews of residents’ needs and records are updated appropriately in line with the Recovery Star Model.
  • Completing DoLS and CTOs applications and reviews and reading their rights.
  • To respect residents’ autonomy, dignity and confidentially.
  • To encourage and support residents in reaching their optimum levels of achievement and independence.
  • To maximise the choices available to residents to ensure their autonomy. • To ensure residents’ files are kept up to date, person centred and to a professional standard.
  • Prepare for, and participate in staff, nurse and residents’ meetings and be competent in recording and storing accurate minutes/documentation. Any actions following the meetings will be expected to be completed by the nurse unless otherwise stated.

  • To undertake all mandatory training courses, external and internal, as required by the company
  • Ensure a good standard and knowledge of medication management and compliance which involves ordering, storage, administration and auditing of medication.
  • Competent in clinical nursing procedures e.g. administration of depo, taking BMs etc.
  • Involved in supporting the Manager in carrying out all necessary audits to make sure compliance e.g. infection control, medication fridge/clinic room temperature.
  • To assist the Registered Manager in implementing Deepdene Care’s values, policies, procedures and systems for maintaining the highest standard of care.
  • To effectively communicate with residents, colleagues and multi-disciplinary team to strive for the maximum effectiveness of every day running of the home and best quality care for residents.
  • To provide a professional and respectable role model as a senior member of the home and respecting the integrity of the company at all times.
  • To provide supervision for junior staff and ensure they adhere to policies, procedures and systems in place within Deepdene Care.
  • Under the guidance and supervision of the Registered Manager, exercise leadership within the service through effective communication, organisation and client and employee relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with the requirements of all legal and governing bodies including the requirements of the Care Quality Commission and work in accordance with all relevant legislation including requirements of NMC.
  • Involved with the Home Manager in completing all notifications relating to the Home compliance e.g. safeguarding, CQC notifications.
  • Keep updated on new clinical and nursing developments.
