Liverpool City Centre
50,000 - 60,000 plus benefits

If you are a Senior-and-above Structural Engineer with a proven track record in defect diagnosis and structural investigations, there is an opportunity to join a well-established nationwide engineering and property consultancy as part of their Liverpool City Centre office.

Your role will involve carrying out site inspections, preparing reports and schedules of remedial works. These inspections will be on a variety of properties across sectors, including residential, commercial, healthcare and education.

The role will also involve supporting the running of the team day to day, including client liaison, fee proposals, invoicing and overseeing and mentoring other members of the team. The role will be flexible with a combination of office, site and remote working. The preference is full time; however, a 4-day working week will be considered for the right candidate.

What you need to do to be effective as a Principal Structural Engineer:

  • Carrying out structural surveys of buildings and structures and providing advice on any issues that may arise
  • Site visits to assess suitability for alterations and produce design drawings
  • Prepare reports on observations, findings and recommendations
  • Prepare schedule of remedial works
  • Oversee the production of design drawings and preparing specifications for tender purposes
  • Analyse and report on structural defects and remediation if required
  • Visiting sites during the construction phase to monitor progress and provide advice to contractors
  • Understanding and following internal QA procedures and processes
  • Preparing fee proposals and scope of services for new projects
  • Managing the fees on projects against the scope of services and issuing invoices
  • Liaising positively with clients and maintaining strong client relationships and repeat work
  • Mentoring and supporting other less experienced team members

The skills and experience you need to have as a Principal Structural Engineer

  • Ability to evidence broad and proven structural design experience in core materials: concrete, steel, masonry and timber
  • Ability to evidence a breadth of UK based structural design and investigation experience
  • Excellent communication skills, in both written and spoken English
  • MIStructE / MICE Chartered membership is preferred, but is not essential for the right candidate with strong evidence and a proven track record
  • A desire to progress within a forward-thinking structural team, to assist with the running of the team and to directly contribute to the teams planned growth
