Reception 1:1 Teaching Assistant

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated support for a young child in Reception with complex communication and sensory needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone with a strong background in SEN, particularly in language development and communication strategies such as Makaton and PECs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support for a Reception child with significant communication and language difficulties (working at a developmental level of around 16 months);
  • Use Makaton and PECs to facilitate communication and language development;
  • Lead and implement a sensory diet and manage sensory issues to ensure the child's comfort and engagement;
  • Assist with intimate care, including nappy changing;
  • Employ positive handling techniques to support the child's emotional and physical well-being;
  • Work closely with staff and specialists to develop and follow a tailored learning plan;
  • Take initiative in leading the child's learning and development due to their complex needs.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience working with children with SEN, particularly in communication and language development;
  • Proficiency in Makaton and PECs is essential;
  • Experience in sensory issues and sensory diets;
  • Trained in positive handling techniques;
  • A caring, patient, and proactive approach with the ability to lead 1:1 support;
  • Experience providing intimate care;
  • Ability to collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to create a nurturing, supportive environment for the child.
