In collaboration with a 2 form entry, Kirkby-based Primary School, we are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a child in Reception with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) and Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD).

This full-time position is available to start immediately, offering a rewarding opportunity to join a supportive and inclusive school environment.

The Role

  • Provide tailored, 1:1 support to a child in Reception, helping them access the Early Years curriculum in a safe and nurturing environment.
  • Implement individualised strategies to manage and reduce challenging behaviours associated with PDA and ODD.
  • Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to adapt learning activities and interventions.
  • Promote positive interactions and emotional regulation, fostering a supportive and encouraging atmosphere for the child.

About You

We are looking for a Teaching Assistant who is:

  • Experienced in working with children with additional needs, particularly PDA and ODD.
  • Calm, patient, and skilled in building trust and strong relationships with young children.
  • Knowledgeable about behaviour management strategies and de-escalation techniques.
  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a team and communicate effectively with staff, parents, and external agencies.
  • Committed to the well-being and development of every child in their care.
