My client is seeking an experienced and proactive Freelance Health and Safety Advisor to support their team on an exciting Rail framework in the North West. This role involves ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations across a range of projects, including station upgrades and Access for All (AFA) schemes.

You will play a critical role in fostering a safe and compliant work environment, driving high standards of health and safety practices, and advising project teams on best practices throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert health and safety advice and support to project teams during station upgrades and AFA scheme implementations.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and risk assessments to ensure compliance with legislation and company standards.
  • Develop and deliver safety briefings, toolbox talks, and training sessions.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, producing detailed reports with recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with contractors and stakeholders to promote a strong safety culture across the framework.
  • Ensure all documentation, including method statements and risk assessments, aligns with regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor and report on health and safety performance, providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
Essential Requirements
  • Proven experience in a Health and Safety role within the rail sector.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of health and safety legislation, particularly related to rail infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrable experience working on station upgrades and AFA schemes.
  • NEBOSH Certificate (or equivalent); IOSH membership preferred.
  • PTS (Personal Track Safety) certification is highly desirable.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and influence teams.
  • Flexibility to travel across the North West as required.
