Description

The School of Access to Higher Education within The City of Liverpool College delivers a wide range of Access to H.E. courses across a range of curriculum areas. We are seeking someone who can teach up Level 3 Access to Higher Education students on the Science and Health pathways.You will join an established team who have many years’ experience in providing a successful Access to Higher Education provision to our students. We have built strong links with local, regional, and national Higher Education Institutions, and our students benefit from this. We are seeking a lecturer who can build on these links, and further strengthen our team by providing effective and stimulating opportunities for all students, through high quality teaching, learning and assessment.

Key Responsibilities
  1. To contribute to the College and curriculum area strategic objectives and to actively engage in the annual review.
  2. To be aware of national developments in subject area and update knowledge and skills on an annual basis.
  3. To plan, prepare and deliver high quality lessons in order to achieve effective management of the learning process.
  4. Plan and use a range of effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques to engage and motivate students and encourage independence and student autonomy.
  5. Establish a purposeful and motivating learning environment where students feel safe, secure, confident and valued.
  6. Establish and maintain procedures with students which promote and maintain appropriate behaviour communication and respect for others, while challenging discriminatory behaviour and attitude
  7. To set and mark work in accordance with College and School Assessment policies.
  8. To track all students’ progress and attendance in accordance with agreed College systems and policies.
  9. To provide a balance of appropriate teaching styles implementing the ‘Liverpool Way’
  10. To be aware of external/internal assessment and quality assurance procedures and to play and appropriate part in their implementation.
  11. To liaise with Head of School in contributing to the design of programmes and teaching approaches which will enable curriculum areas to achieve high standards and value added.
  12. To liaise with Head of School and curriculum teams in contributing to the administration necessary to support the teaching, learning and assessment within the subject area.
  13. To review own professional development needs and to participate fully in future training and development.
  14. To contribute positively to the team, through the sharing ideas & the cooperative development of resources.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

Generic duties:

  1. To contribute fully to the mission and values statement of the College Group ensuring its effective implementation in all aspects of College life.
  2. To take proactive responsibility for Health & Safety to ensure that a safe working      environment and safe working practices are maintained at all times.
  3. To comply with the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
  4. To support cross college activities as required, such as organizing events or assisting with enrolment.
  5. To understand roles and responsibilities around safeguarding all learners and contribute to maintaining a safe learning environment.

Essential criteria:

  1.  Educated to Level 4 e.g. Degree or equivalent in a Biology related field.
  2. A recognised teaching qualification or vocational experience.
  3. Professional qualification relevant to the subject area.
  4. Excellent computer literacy – ability to use the current IT programs of the College.
  5. Proven relevant experience of curriculum planning, development & delivery.
  6. Knowledge and understanding of the Access to HE diploma.
  7. Engaged in Continuing Professional Development.
  8. Minimum of Level 2 literacy and numeracy or willingness to complete.
  9. High level of communication and interpersonal skills.
  10. Ability to devise new resources for learning.
  11. Either – evidence of a successful teaching placement (applicants currently in training) OR successful record of teaching including very good exam results in GCSE Biology and/or Chemistry.

Desirable criteria:

  1. Ability to set high standards for students, colleagues and for themselves.
  2. An ICT qualification.
  3. Membership of a relevant professional body.
  4. Experience of assessing students’ needs and planning curriculum for their benefit including   Technology Enhanced Learning.
  5. Good understanding of curriculum development to meet the training needs of employers.
  6. Good understanding of quality assurance and improvement processes.
  7. The ability to teach Chemistry at level 2 and/or level 3.
