Science Lecturer

To contribute to achieving excellence in teaching and learning through innovative and excellent practice. You will be expected to create effective and stimulating learning opportunities for all students through high quality teaching, learning and assessment. Enthusing students by making the subject content relevant and current with a strong link to employers and the local economy. You will be required to monitor each student’s academic performance and provide feedback for improvements, supervise and motivate students to achieve their academic and personal goals. We offer GCSE, AS and A Level sciences, as well as BTEC Level 3 in Applied Science and Level 1 at the Clarence Street Campus.

• To plan, prepare and deliver high quality lessons to achieve effective management of the learning process
• Plan and use a range of effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques to engage and motivate students and encourage independence and student autonomy
• Establish a purposeful and motivating learning environment where students feel safe, secure, confident and valued
• Establish and maintain procedures with students which promote and maintain appropriate behaviour, communication and respect for others, while challenging discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.
• To set, mark and record work in accordance with College and School Assessment policies.
• To track all students’ progress and attendance in accordance with agreed College systems and policies
• 10. To provide a balance of appropriate teaching styles and learning experiences.
• 11. To be aware of external/internal assessment procedures and to play and appropriate part in their implementation.
• Evaluate and improve own communication skills to maximise effective communication and overcome barriers
•  To liaise with Assistant Dean in contributing to the design of programmes and teaching approaches which will enable curriculum areas to achieve high standards and value added
• To liaise with Assistant Dean and curriculum teams in contributing to the administration necessary to support the teaching, learning and assessment within the subject area
• To work with colleagues with relevant expertise to identify and address additional Digital, English and Maths skills for development within the subject area.
• To review own professional development needs and to participate fully in future training and development
• To communicate and consult with parents, carers and students including Parent’s Evening, Welcome Evenings, events and open evenings
• To ensure that all students in the subject area comply with College’s policies and procedures
•  To provide enrichment opportunities that are exciting, motivating and enhance the student experience.
•  To ensure learners are supported with a well prepared VLE and resources for independent study.
• A knowledge and appreciation of the different needs of learners and effective strategies to ensure all learners make progress

Essential Criteria: 1. Educated to Level 4 e.g. Degree or equivalent in Scientific or related degree2. Successful recent previous teaching experience with 11-18 year olds3. Excellent computer literacy – ability to use the current IT programs of the College4. Proven relevant experience of curriculum planning, development & delivery in Business5. Knowledge and understanding gained from previous experience in delivering the BTEC and/or A level specifications.6. Engaged and passionate about Continuing Professional Development.7. Minimum of Level 1 Literacy/Numeracy .8. High level of communication and interpersonal skills, an effective member of a team9. Ability to set high standards for students, colleagues and for themselves10. Strong understanding of the importance and impact of feedback on learner performance11. Experience using ICT to support and enhance subject delivery12. Outstanding teacher who is student centred.Desirable Criteria: 1. A recognised Teaching qualification2. Experience and understanding of ALPS and value added as progress measures3. Good understanding of curriculum development to meet the training needs of employers4. Experience with BTEC verification and standardisation5. Fluent speaking in any of the mentioned languages: Arabic, Chinese, Farsi, Kurdish Sorani, Tigrinya, Spanish, French or Portuguese
