Technical Buyer

  • Location: Liverpool, 4.5 day week and work from home 2 days.

Our client is seeking a Buyer with a technical experience from a engineering or manufacturing background to join their Procurement team. This role involves purchasing goods, materials, and services to meet the company’s operational needs, focusing on price, quality, and timely delivery. You will support the Procurement Manager in the day-to-day procurement activities, ensuring efficiency and compliance.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Manage supply chain performance, collaborating closely with the operations and quality teams to meet required standards.
  • Procure a mix of made-to-order engineered and off-the-shelf goods using Just-In-Time principles.
  • Utilise technical knowledge to identify the correct suppliers during the RFQ stage and ensure compliance by cross-referencing quotations with drawings and specifications.
  • Provide technical assistance both internally and externally to develop awareness of manufacturing requirements and quality expectations.
  • Maintain effective communication, providing feedback to the supply chain and progress reports to internal stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with internal departments such as Goods In, Engineering, Operations, and Sales to enhance procurement processes.
  • Establish and improve long-term supplier relationships, focusing on cost versus quality to maximise market opportunities.
  • Identify risks to projects and implement risk mitigation techniques to minimise delays.
  • Manage procurement activities using Sage 200 software, raise purchase orders, and ensure compliance with project budgets.
  • Strive for continual improvement within the Procurement and Goods In departments.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in Procurement and Supply Chain Management at a senior level.
  • CIPS qualification is desirable.
  • Strong background within the Engineering sector is highly desirable.
  • Excellent understanding of supply chain management and analysis.
  • Strong commercial and negotiation skills.
  • Experience with MRP and EBQ systems.
  • Proficient in managing Sage 200 procurement software.
