This position supports the Principal Housing Improvement Officer in the effective delivery of the Home Improvement Service. The role includes assessing client needs for housing adaptations, developing practical solutions, and managing the execution of works, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and legislation.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide expert guidance and assistance to clients applying for housing-related grants or loans, ensuring clear communication and support throughout the process.
- Carry out property assessments to determine eligibility for improvements, in line with applicable housing safety and quality standards, such as the Housing Health and Safety Rating System and the Decent Homes Standard.
- Draft detailed specifications and work schedules based on assessments, ensuring all projects meet legal and functional requirements.
- Maintain and update a list of approved contractors, overseeing contract administration and ensuring quality and compliance with agreed terms.
- Work closely with Occupational Therapists, clients, and other relevant stakeholders to design suitable home adaptations, recommending cost-effective alternatives where applicable.
- Track the progress of ongoing projects, ensuring that all work is completed to a high standard and within the specified timeframe.
- Oversee contractor payments and finalise project accounts, ensuring that all transactions adhere to Council procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of all interactions, updating case files and providing detailed progress reports to management.
- Contribute to the development of new services, help set performance targets, and support the creation of standard operating procedures.
- Keep up-to-date with changes in building regulations, industry best practices, and sustainable development principles.
- Ensure that all work complies with current Health and Safety standards, Building Regulations, and other relevant legal requirements.
Additional Responsibilities
- Work independently, managing a full caseload and ensuring all cases are handled efficiently and professionally.
- Step in for senior colleagues when required, providing continuity of service.
- Participate in training, attend team meetings, and contribute to the ongoing development of the service.
- Engage in performance assessments and provide input into service improvement strategies.
- Attend evening meetings or events when necessary, based on business needs.
