Additional Needs Support Assistant

Tradewind Recruitment is seeking dedicated and compassionate Additional Needs Support Assistants to join an outstanding Liverpool school catering to children aged 2-11 with severe and complex learning, physical, and autism spectrum needs.

As part of a dynamic team, successful candidates will support teachers in delivering tailored educational experiences, fostering a supportive and stimulating learning environment. Key responsibilities include assisting pupils with learning and therapy activities, contributing to behavioural and emotional support, and managing personal care needs to ensure all students have access to holistic and inclusive educational experiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Learning Support: Implement and adapt learning activities in line with the teacher's plans, with flexibility to suit student's responses and abilities. Provide feedback on pupil progress and engage in planning discussions to enhance student outcomes.
  • Specialist Assistance: Work alongside other staff to offer specialist support, including physical and behavioural assistance for students with sensory, medical, and communication needs.
  • Personal and Social Care: Help students with daily needs such as toileting, dressing, and eating, encouraging independence and social skills development.
  • Classroom Preparation: Organise and manage learning resources, prepare classroom displays, and support the use of technology in lessons.
  • Therapeutic Support: Collaborate with care professionals to implement therapy programs and administer medications as trained, fostering a safe and supportive environment.
  • Additional Duties: Supervise students during breaks, assist on educational visits, and create engaging, inclusive play-based learning opportunities.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: NVQ Level 2 or equivalent; proficiency in literacy and numeracy.
  • Experience: Previous experience working in a challenging, inclusive educational setting.
  • Skills: Strong communication and teamwork abilities, along with an understanding of behaviour management and support strategies.
  • Personal Attributes: A resilient and adaptable approach, with the energy and commitment to make a meaningful impact on student's lives.

Desirable Skills:

  • Familiarity with augmentative communication tools (e.g., Makaton, PECS) and experience with basic first aid.
