About the role

A special educational needs (SEN) teacher will work with children and young people who need extra support, or require an advanced programme of learning, in order to reach their full educational potential.

A SEN teacher may work with individuals who have physical disabilities, sensory impairments, speech and language difficulties, learning difficulties such as dyslexia, conditions such as autism, social, emotional and mental health needs.

A SEN teacher may also work with gifted and talented individuals.

A key aspect of working in this field is identifying individual needs and being responsible for creating a safe, stimulating and supportive learning environment.

Duties will include:

  • Create a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Plan, deliver, and mark lessons that cater to all student abilities.
  • Motivate and challenge pupils with your teaching methods.
  • Display good levels of classroom control.
  • Stay up to date with changes and developments in the curriculum.
  • Liaise with other Teachers and Teaching Assistants within the school.

Requirements

  • QTS is essential
  • Proven experience within SEN
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with students, parents, and colleagues
  • A genuine passion for teaching and nurturing young minds is crucial.
