Job Description - WGUK Energy Products

First Achieve's Engineering department have a great opportunity for a result driven, innovative, and creative Controls Engineer to join our client's team in Livingston.

The primary focus is to maintain the current control platforms, assist in project conceptual designs, detail engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design and troubleshoot process control systems.
  • Engineer, design and test electrical, instrumentation and automation systems associated with industrial manufacturing plants.
  • PLC/HMI hardware/software design, programming, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop and engineer electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and PLC logic.
  • Design and implement process network infrastructure (Ethernet, Device Net, Control Net, etc.).
  • Interface and communicate with vendors, process engineering, installation contractors and project management.
  • Specify and procure controls hardware and field instrumentation.
  • Database programming skills a plus. (SCADA)
  • Compliance and enforcement of company, safety, environmental, government policies and regulations as they apply.
  • Understand and assist in application of company safe systems of work.

KEY COMPETENCIES:

  • Strong understanding of PLC ladder logic, programming methods, and process related control systems. (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Fanuc)
  • Ability to design/enhance HMI applications.
  • Ability to examine complex electrical problems, identify root cause, determine method for repair; plan and organize work.
  • Knowledge of automation (PLC) and electrical system design, diagnosis and operation.
  • Knowledge of applicable Electrical Codes.
  • Ability to operate electrical test instruments
  • Strong experience in plant commissioning
  • Effective levels of communication within the workplace.
  • Able to work independently or as a productive member within a team.
