Graduate / Geotechnical Engineer

Our client is a rapidly expanding geotechnical design consultancy, who in turn form part of one of the UKs leading specialist ground engineering contractors, and they offer a range of additional services.

Their philosophy is to embrace the latest innovation and combine this with the in depth technical expertise of their team so as to demonstrate total commitment to their clients to deliver the best value engineered solution for a vast range of projects and sectors.

Additionally our client will review and offer complete engineering solutions for highly complex development sites and / or conditions. Our client embraces the higher risks associated with any type of geotechnical / ground development by working in partnership with all stakeholders at the very early phase of the process. Additional bolt on bespoke service offerings include (but are not limited to); holistic soil / ground testing and factual data reporting, ground / soil improvement and stabilisation, remediation, earthworks, contaminated land assessment, and all associated enabling works.

Due to continued expansion, an abundant pipeline of works, and the recent award of a number of lucrative contracts, our client now wishes to appoint a Graduate / Geotechnical Engineer to plan, prioritise and manage site-based field testing and accompanying laboratory works on behalf of the company. You will work on multiple schemes simultaneously in various sectors, with responsibilities comprising of various geotechnical based testing activities in the field, then analysing, interpretating and reporting on the results, ultimately to propose the most appropriate choice of methodology where ground treatment or stabilisation / improvement is concerned or selecting the correct technique of foundation (piling or drilling & grouting for example) depending on the ground or soil conditions. You will also be working within a multi-skilled team, and be responsible for conducting technical reviews, interpretative report writing, liaison and meetings with clients and regulatory authorities, and ensuring compliance with health and safety guidelines. The role will be based within the Central Belt region of Scotland and offer work from home flexibility, with travel to sites as required. Right to work in the UK unassisted and a full UK driving licence is required.

The Role

Supervision of site based testing, including soil sampling, then analysing and reporting on the results, utilising the companys in-house laboratory if required

Collect and organise data to produce a variety of reports for internal teams and clients

Safe, profitable and timely delivery and management of all assigned responsibilities on numerous sites and projects

Input to proposal writing, and interpretative reporting and factual report writing

Ensure professional relationships (internal and external) are developed and maintained to maximise the opportunity to successfully procure and profitably assist in the delivery of projects

To work and dispense accountabilities proactively and effectively, helping to ensure that individual and team targets are achieved or exceeded

Responsible for site visits, assessments and surveys, which will include client meetings to ascertain individual project specification requirements, all to optimise the success of each proposal

All technical works shall be carried out in accordance with the relevant standards, codes, guidelines and quality procedures

The Person

Applications are invited from recent Graduates possessing a relevant geotechnical engineering degree, or more rounded individuals offering 2-3 years practical work experience

Ability to manage and deliver on your accountabilities on time and within budget

You will be expected to combine site work with office or lab based technical duties

Possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and be able to relate to all levels of internal and external stakeholders

Familiarity with the relevant technical industry requirements / regulations, either through your studies or gained from practical work experience

Excellent numerical skills including data interpretation

IT literacy with the use of Microsoft packages
