DS Smith is a world renowned sustainable packaging solutions provider. The Livingston site is responsible for creating packaging for well known drinks brands and houses significant printing technology. The successful applicant will be placed on day shifts within their Quarantine area.

Role: Operative

Location: DS Smith Packaging, Muir Rd, Livingston EH54 5DP

Rate: 11.83ph

Contract length: 3 months initially with the view to extend or offer permanent employment

Shift Patterns: 08:00-16:00 Mon-Thu and 08:00-13:30 Fri. (37.5 hours per week)

Start: ASAP

Responsibilities:

  • Operating machinery to create bespoke packaging solutions from corrugated card

  • Ensuring efficiency is maximised and downtime is kept to a minimum at all times

  • Adhering to productivity and performance targets whilst maintaining the highest of standards

  • Conducting maintenance checks and tasks including cleaning the machinery

  • Adhering to UK Health and Safety legislation at all times and encouraging others to do the same

  • Reporting Health and Safety issues and incidents to management in real time

  • Operating within a safe system of work (SSOW)

  • Providing input towards improvement initiatives processing machinery and material handling equipment in a safe and productive manner.

Essential requirements:

  • Previous experience within a production or manufacturing environment

  • Strong knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation

  • Ability and previous experience of operating machinery

  • Ability to be on feet for extended periods and conduct manual handling including regular bending and reaching

  • Strong verbal and written communication

  • Proactive nature and positive approach to work, challenges and quality
