Venue Assistant General Manager

Balham, Southwest London

Salary: £42,000 p.a.

Our client is a local bar and events venue space in Balham which, during the week they host events like quizzes, comedy nights, life drawing classes, bottomless brunches and is available for private hire every weekend.

They are looking for a pro-active Assistant General Manager with experience of working in a busy late night. You will be responsible for implementing high service standards and positively impacting the P&L using your creativity, entrepreneurship and commercial knowledge. You’ll be an effective leader who is approachable, honest and passionate about driving your team forward through ongoing development. We are looking for a real superstar with an abundance of energy, to have real impact in this iconic independent business.

This role is for an experienced Assistant General Manager who is ready to step up to support a diverse and growing business. You will be a highly commercial operator who understands how to deliver industry leading metrics and bring positive energy to everything you do.

Service

  • Operating and delivering to the highest standards of service, product, environment and atmosphere.
  • You will ensure the venue runs efficiently by leading from the front and driving outstanding hospitality who cares about creating a positive environment for guests and your team.
  • You will ensure our guests are shown the best possible experience where your team believes in going the extra mile for our guests’ keeping expectations and standards high.
  • Identify and solve potential problems before they arise; knowing when to escalate an issue upwards.
  • Handle Private events and communicate with Hosts.
  • Cashing up and daily reports.

HR

  • Motivate your team by providing excellent support and training. Working with the General Manager to deliver on all aspects of staff welfare. Creating a happy and positive work environment.
  • Drafting rotas.
  • Supporting with staff recruitment, development, and training.
  • Working with the general manager to deliver on all aspects of staff welfare and helping to make a happy and positive work environment.

H&S/Venue Maintenance

  • Ensuring general H&S documentation is in place and standards are met inc. fire safety, first aid, COSHH, allergy awareness etc.
  • Working to ensure general venue upkeep, identifying and escalating maintenance issues as they arise.

Bookings

  • Experience using DMN Collins, or similar.
  • Be confident hosting, creating table plans, responding to guest enquiries and queries.
  • Be able to work alongside sales and marking team.

Reporting

  • Working with the general manager and bar manager on pricing and stock takes, fill in and check orders.
  • Helping to generate, and present, weekly reports, working to help achieve quarterly GP, sales, and wastage targets.
  • Periodically presenting to the director; having creative input on operations/marketing/social media.
  • Personal Alcohol Licence holders preferred; the company provides it otherwise.

Requirements:

  • Experience working as either an AGM, Restaurant Manager or Assistant Manager within a busy late-night venue.
  • Personal Licence Holder (PLH).
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations and best practices.
