Job Overview

The London Borough of Lambeth is seeking a highly skilled Accountant / Senior Finance Officer (PO4) to join the Children's Services Finance Team. The successful candidate will support the Children's Social Care department during a period of service transformation, which includes managing financial pressures and ensuring savings targets are met.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact on the financial management of Children's Services in Lambeth, working closely with senior colleagues and stakeholders to provide sound financial advice and support service delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Budget Monitoring: Play an active role in budget monitoring, ensuring value is added at every stage. Be able to explain complex financial information in simple terms, provide constructive challenge, and support the development of financial mitigations.
  • Financial Modelling & Appraisal: Undertake financial analysis and modelling for various projects within Children's Services, offering robust financial advice to support service transformation.
  • Communication: Communicate complex financial messages confidently, with compassion and tact, to a range of senior stakeholders.
  • Line Management: Manage and support a team of Assistant Accountants, ensuring effective delivery of financial tasks and fostering team development.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience in managing Children's Social Care (CSC) placements.
  • Strong financial modelling, analytical, and appraisal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts in clear, simple terms.
  • Experience providing challenge and offering financial advice in a complex and high-pressure environment.
  • Qualified Accountant with significant experience in financial management.
  • Line management experience is desirable, as you will be managing two Assistant Accountants.
