You'll play a key role in managing financial processes, optimising accounts payable operations, and building strong relationships across the business. Accounts Payable Accountant Responsibilities
  • Lead process improvements within accounts payable, identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, strengthen controls, and streamline operations.
  • Oversee vendor management, including maintaining the supplier database, conducting periodic supplier reviews (including credit checks), and tracking key contract performance indicators.
  • Act as the primary finance contact for internal stakeholders and external suppliers, ensuring smooth purchase order (PO) management and reconciliation of vendor accounts.
  • Assist with inbox management and invoice processing as needed.
  • Coordinate and execute weekly and monthly payment runs.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Support the month-end and year-end closing process to ensure accuracy in payables accounts.
  • Manage the fixed assets process, driving improvements in asset tracking and reporting.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Financial Accounting Manager on various projects and ad hoc tasks.
  • Provide training and guidance to the wider finance team as required.
  • As the role evolves, responsibilities may be adjusted based on team and business needs.
Profile
  • Experience in accounts payable within a mid-to-large-sized Retail organisation - Not essential
  • Proven track record of implementing process improvements and driving efficiencies in accounts payable.
  • Proactive and results-driven approach, identifying opportunities to add value beyond core responsibilities.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including data manipulation and analysis using formulas.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build strong relationships across the business.
  • Team-oriented mindset, with a willingness to collaborate and support finance colleagues.
  • Solid understanding of double-entry accounting principles; experience with fixed assets and VAT is a plus.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience using SAP - Ideal but not essential
