My client is a 5 star hotel located in the heart of the West End is seeking a dedicated Assistant Financial Controller to join their finance team. This role involves supporting the Financial Controller in managing accounting operations, developing internal controls, and preparing financial statements. The ideal candidate will be proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to challenge traditional processes to enhance financial accuracy and efficiency.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Support various aspects of accounting management including billing, tax forms, and reporting.
  • Assist in the development of internal controls and policies to ensure compliance with legislation and best practices.
  • Prepare financial statements in line with official guidelines and requirements.
  • Manage journal entries, invoices, and reconcile accounts for monthly or annual closings.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Participate in the annual audit preparation.
  • Develop reports for management or regulatory bodies.
  • Review accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances.
  • Utilize accounting IT systems to streamline processes and maintain accurate records.
  • Supervise Finance Assistants and provide cover for their roles when necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Payroll Officer and Financial Controller to develop a commercial finance/FP&A function that supports operational teams by transitioning from basic reporting to a more analytical and value-added focus.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a similar role within a luxury hotel environment, with proficiency in using a PMS (Opera) system.
  • Strong skills in Excel (at least intermediate level) and effective presentation capabilities.
  • Familiarity with systems such as Fourth and Access Procure Wizard or similar.
  • Highly organized and capable of multitasking with a positive attitude and strong teamwork skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive information discreetly.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a flexible approach to working hours, including occasional weekend work.
  • Experience in FP&A, focused on improving efficiencies and reducing costs through detailed analysis.
