One of my local government clients are currently recruiting an experienced Finance Officer on a temporary basis. This is a 3-month minimum contract with the possibility of the role being extended further to work Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm.

Hybrid working role were, however, you will be required to attend the office 2/3 times a week.

Overview:

The Finance Officer post plays an important role in supporting the Department for Children, Adults and Health. Under the direction of the Senior Finance Officer, the Finance Officer supports the delivery of a range of quality and cost effective financial management and financial support services. This role will primarily support work relating to areas covered by High Needs Block funding, Schools Block Funding and Dedicated Schools Grant (DSG) recovery plan.

  • The preparation of budget monitoring information, project support work linked with the councils DSG Recovery plan and support for the preparation of schools funding allocations.
  • Ensuring a prompt follow-up on requests for information from budget holders, managers and schools.
  • Provision of financial advice and support to budget holders involving access to the main accounting systems, use of spreadsheets and specific software tools.
  • Being a point of contact to budget holders and support staff within the Education Learning and Skills Service, Business Support and Schools.

Responsitbilities:

  • Research, analyse and evaluate information which may include legislative and regulatory areas to enhance decision making for budget planning. Provide good technical advice to customers ensuring that procedures and good practice are shared.
  • Support the delivery of designated areas of work by co-ordinating day to day operations and contribute to developing projects and processes. 
  • Ensure customers are well informed and that information provided is useful, relevant and given on time.
  • Contribute both to the monitoring of projects and reporting on cost effectiveness and quality standards and to the establishing, implementing and reviewing service standards and performance measures.
  • Ensure that accurate records are developed and maintained and that this information is assessed and analysed.
