The successful candidate will play a crucial role in overseeing all aspects of financial accounting including balance sheet reconciliations, compliance, year-end processes and tax-related tasks. In addition, they will be responsible for the effective running of the accounts payable function.

Description

Financial Accounting

* Oversee completion of monthly bank reconciliations ensuring they are reconciled and reviewed within two weeks from the end of the month.

* Manage the month end process and the month end checklist ensuring all tasks are processed by the relevant teams before the close of the period and cut-offs and month end process requirements are properly communicated to all finance colleagues.

* Manage the opening and closing of periods in Business World ensuring all triggers are run and reconciled.

* Manage the balance sheet ensuring that all control accounts are reconciled within two weeks of the end of the period.

* Manage the daily monitoring of bank accounts and investments as an integral part of treasury management.

* Regular (daily, weekly and monthly) update of cash flow forecast and monitor actuals vs. forecast to maintain up-to-date cash flow forecasts for the University.

* Oversee the Payments function, comprising a Payments Manager and two Payments Assistants.

* Oversee the accurate and timely processing of all supplier invoices.

* Accurate and on-time completion of the quarterly VAT return promptly following the end of the quarter.

Profile

A successful Financial Accountant should have:

  • Experience in the education sector as a financial or management accountant
  • Obtained the ACCA, ACA or CIMA qualification
  • Comprehensive technical knowledge and experience of financial accounting, accounting systems and processes in a large organisation
  • Comprehensive understanding of financial controls.
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience of taxation, particularly VAT and PAYE.
  • Unit 4 business world
