Construction Financial Controller

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join a dynamic and growing construction company in London. This is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the business, ensuring strong financial controls, reporting accuracy, and strategic planning to support continued growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the day-to-day financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly management accounts, P&L statements, and balance sheets.
  • Implement and maintain strong financial controls and compliance with UK accounting standards.
  • Manage project costing, job profitability analysis, and cost control across multiple construction projects.
  • Provide strategic financial advice to senior management, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Oversee VAT, CIS, and other construction-specific tax compliance.
  • Manage relationships with external auditors, banks, and key stakeholders.
  • Lead and develop the finance team, ensuring best practices and efficiency.
Key Requirements
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in a similar role within the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction accounting, CIS, and WIP accounting.
  • Excellent analytical skills and a commercial mindset.
  • Strong leadership and team management experience.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, COINS, Xero, or similar).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.
