What is the opportunity?

  • This is a new role/ investment being made by a privately owned, award-winning consulting engineering company, to provide new focus on project finances and related net profit.
  • Your role is to enable this through developing existing project financial and process controls, to provide better visibility of project financial performance and to proactively communicate with all the relevant stakeholders.
  • You will be part of the senior management team, collaborating with project directors and project managers, Financial Accountant and reporting to a main board member.
  • To develop the financial management/ acumen of a large group of talented engineers within an employee focussed professional services company that do good (the outputs of the company contribute to the wellbeing of society).
  • Probably based out of London (where the largest group of employees are based), potentially Bristol, potentially another office/ remote. Wherever you are based, you'll be expected to travel to all their offices, developing your understanding and relationships.

We expect your activities will include:

  • Accurate project financial performance by office and discipline
  • Fully utilising project and resource management software (Rapport3)
  • Management reporting (WiP reports, Revenue and Cost Analysis, Variance Analysis) with detailed commentary and analysis
  • Office and discipline team resource analysis to support resource planning and recruitment business cases.
  • Proactive communication with project directors and managers to facilitate project reviews to identify monthly WiP, Advanced Billing, write-downs and claims handling.
  • Perform cost-to-complete analysis on projects and re-forecast the adjustments within system.
  • Review and communicate overall financial performance of projects, project profitability and order book.
  • Develop project directors and managers in financial project management and build relationships to support them in financial compliance.
  • Provide support in developing and implementing business information analytics, controls, reviews, reporting and checklists to ensure adequate processes are in place.
  • Collaborate with software developer over system development and maintenance, software updates and general support to resolve integrations and report production.

We expect your profile to include:

  • Relevant experience of delivering project financial controls, gained within Consulting Engineering, Architecture or similar professional services (transferable experience) and adding value to the company.
  • MBA / CA (Inter)/ CMA level qualification with desire to undertake further learning.
  • Experience of Rapport3, SAP, Maconomy or other ERP software.
  • Expert knowledge of MS Excel including PowerQuery and PowerPivot and a working knowledge of PowerBI.
  • Working knowledge of MS Word and PowerPoint.
