Financial Controller, 6 Month FTC, £54,000-£60,000 pro rata

Leading Arts company is seeking a Financial Controller for a 6 Month fixed term contract for 6 months. This role could then be extended.

Reporting the CFO you will work hybrid (2 days in the office to coincide with the Auditors being in the office, leading up to year end; thereafter, your hybrid working pattern can be more flexible). You will be responsible for managing the day-to-day financial control operations, including all aspects of financial accounting, cash flow, debtor and creditor management.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure the integrity of the financial numbers, including compliance with relevant accounting standards
  • Play a pivotal role in the management of financial systems
  • Supervise the maintenance of financial ledgers and accounting processes
  • Oversee the year-end process including statutory accounts and external audit, including completion of the statutory accounts
  • Ensure that appropriate systems and internal controls are implemented and maintained
  • Oversee accounting processes and controls improvements
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Charity legislation
  • Liaise closely with relevant income generating departments over contract compliance and debt collection
  • Supervise accounts payable and receivable
  • Liaise with bank and ensure bank signatories are up to date
  • Provide financial and non-financial information to Trustees, directors, budget holders, project managers and external funders
  • Attend and present to the Audit and Risk, Finance and Operations, and Investment sub-committees, as required
  • Set work plans, delegating tasks, reviewing performance, providing guidance, line management, coaching and mentoring for five direct reports
  • Maintaining financial records for the department and compliance with data protection and GDPR
  • Oversee capital projects, as required
  • Co-ordinate counter-fraud measures across the Gallery
  • Oversee debt collection
  • Manage the loan facility and reporting requirements
  • Liaise with Investment Managers
  • Cover for the Chief Financial Officer where appropriate
  • Attend Senior Management Group
  • Oversee the financial systems (including PS Financials and Yooz), ensuring they are effective for the requirements of the finance department and the wider organisation

Experience needed:

  • Previous experience of managing a team of similar size and operating in a complex environment
  • Experience in audit, an accounting firm or a charity, public sector or similar organisation
  • Fully qualified CCAB Accountant
  • Strong technical accounting, able to support the Senior Financial Accountant in determining accounting treatments
  • Working knowledge of Financial Reporting Manual (preferable)
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills are required to line manage, convey complex information, influence and negotiate
  • Excellent computer literacy skills, including a high degree of proficiency with spreadsheets and experience of interrogating a computerised accounts systems
