Financial Controller

At Reed Finance we are partnering exclusively with a prestigious construction firm in Central London to recruit for them a Financial Controller on a part-time basis 3 days per week. 

This opportunity with take on responsibility for a busy finance and accounting function and will report initially to the Management Director.

This role offers a broad scope of responsibilities and the potential for advancement into a management position.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Manage accurate weekly payroll and payments to sub-contractors, including inputting new employees, checking CIS statuses, and verifying them with HMRC.
  • Prepare payroll records and submissions to revenue.
  • Record and monitor sickness, absences, payments, and holiday allowances in conjunction with our office manager.
  • Handle P11d reporting, staff expenses, mobile phones, and credit cards.
  • Input invoices and ensure accurate and timely supplier payments.
  • Conduct credit control and prepare financial information for accountants to oversee and sign off accounts.
  • Prepare financial information for external auditors and monitor cash flow.
  • Manage bookkeeping, prepayments, accruals, and management reporting (profit & loss/balance sheet/variance to budget).
  • Prepare annual budgets, revised forecasts, bank reconciliations, and transfers.
  • Prepare tax returns e.g., VAT and deal with miscellaneous enquiries from clients, banks, HMRC, insurance, etc.
  • Implement new processes including paperless operating/full BACS payment system.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified Accountant either ACCA, CIMA or ACCA or equivalent
  • Previous experience as a Finance Manager or Controller in a small to medium-sized business
  • Ideally background within the construction sector
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with others and deal with clients and other stakeholders politely and effectively.
  • Proficiency in Sage Line 50 (or similar accounting system), Eque2 Construct, and Payroll.
  • Intermediate to advanced skills in Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work comfortably in a busy environment and carry out tasks in a timely, professional, and accurate manner.
