Fund Accountant - Not-for-Profit Organization

Purpose:

We are a London-based not-for-profit organization dedicated to driving impactful change through strategic partnerships and sustainable funding initiatives. Our work is supported by an endowment, which is carefully invested to generate returns that enable us to fulfill our charitable mission. With operations spanning both the UK and the US, we manage multiple funds and investment portfolios to ensure long-term financial sustainability.

We are seeking a Fund Accountant to support the Finance Director and the Investment Committee, playing a key role in the financial oversight of our investment activities. This position involves reviewing, reconciling, and analyzing investments managed by external advisors and custodians. The role also includes assisting with financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, audits, and tax compliance, ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements in both the UK and the US.

Main Accountabilities:
  • Manage end-to-end accounting for investments in the organization's UK and US endowments.
  • Prepare downloads and reconcile each investment fund in the endowments to reports provided by the fund, external investment managers, and custodians.
  • Produce reports requested by the COO, Finance Director, and Investment Committee to help monitor and analyze risk, compliance with investment policies, and investment performance.
  • Serve as a regular point of contact for custodians, investment managers, and funds regarding positions in the endowments and related administrative matters, including investment documentation.
  • Assist in forecasting, cash management, and reserves management.
  • Track and analyze monthly investment transaction flows for management review.
  • Input investment fund journals and maintain balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Assist in preparing and delivering year-end financial close compliant with laws, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Support internal and external audits, statutory returns, year-end accounts, financial statements, and US tax returns.
  • Work with the Finance Director to maintain a robust internal control environment and adhere to auditing and accounting standards and procedures.
  • Provide coverage for other members of the Finance Team and support special projects as requested by the Finance Director.
Experience:
  • Awareness of financial regulations, compliance, reporting requirements, and best practices in internal controls for UK and US accounting and financial management systems.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and FASC accounting and audit practices.
  • Experience with charitable accounts and UK Charities SORP is appreciated.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, CFA or equivalent).
  • experience with grants and funds.
  • Strong analytical skills to identify trends and variances, conduct financial analysis, interpret data, and draw meaningful insights while identifying risks.
  • Familiarity with financial systems and accounting software, including QuickBooks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Excel.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Accurate and efficient data entry skills for maintaining precise financial records and vendor management.
