Revenues Officer - Debt Resolution Service

Location: Hybrid - Southwark offices and surrounding area (minimum two days per week)Salary: £25 Umbrella P/H Contract: Temporary, Full-time

Are you an experienced Revenues professional with extensive knowledge of Council Tax legislation and NEC (Northgate Revenues)?

We are seeking six skilled Revenues Officers to join the Debt Resolution Service within the Income Operations Service. The primary focus of this role is to reduce arrears and influence customer payment behaviours through effective customer contact, payment negotiation, verification of liabilities, and appropriate recovery action.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage a caseload in the administration, billing, collection, and recovery of Council Tax, Business Rates, and BIDs.
  • Interpret and apply relevant legislation and council policies.
  • Verify customer liabilities, discounts, and exemptions.
  • Engage with customers through various channels to negotiate payments and recovery plans.
  • Take appropriate recovery action, including court representation where necessary.
  • Liaise with internal departments, external agencies, and legal teams to facilitate effective debt resolution.
Requirements:
  • Extensive experience with NEC (Northgate Revenues) and a strong understanding of Council Tax legislation.
  • Previous experience with Civica Collect (Onestep) is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience in debt recovery, payment negotiation, and customer contact strategies.
  • Ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet collection targets.
  • Willingness to attend Southwark offices or surrounding areas at least two days per week, with potential home visits required.
