I am supporting a client who is a fast-growing construction company with a strong portfolio of projects and is backed by a private equity house with an impressive portfolio. They specialise in delivering high-quality construction solutions for a variety of commercial, residential, and infrastructure developments. Our focus is on driving growth and operational efficiency while maintaining strong financial health in a dynamic and competitive industry.

Role Overview:

They are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Controller to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial management within the construction sector, ideally with experience in a private equity-backed environment. You will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and compliance, ensuring the financial integrity of the company as it continues to scale.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the day-to-day financial operations, including accounting, financial reporting, and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Prepare and manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring accuracy and alignment with industry regulations.
  • Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes, working closely with senior management and other departments.
  • Monitor cash flow, ensuring liquidity and efficient use of resources across all projects.
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure strong internal controls and mitigate risk.
  • Manage financial audits, tax filings, and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.

Qualifications:
  • Qualified Chartered Accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) from a recognized UK accountancy body, or a recognized qualification from an Australian or New Zealand accounting body (e.g., CA, CPA, or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a financial control role, preferably within the construction industry or with private equity-backed companies.
  • Strong understanding of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls.
  • Proven experience with financial systems (ERP, Excel, etc.), with the ability to manage and analyze large datasets.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to see the "big picture" while ensuring financial accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior management, project teams, and investors.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Desired Skills:
  • Experience in project-based accounting and cost control within the construction industry.
  • Knowledge of private equity structures, financial modelling, and investor relations.
  • Familiarity with construction software (e.g., Procore, Viewpoint, or similar).
  • Ability to work in a high-growth, entrepreneurial environment and adapt to change.
