Interim Management Accountant

Morgan Hunt are working with a University based in Central London who are looking at recruiting an Interim Management Accountant. This is a 12-month contract role paying up to £35 p/day. This role is full-time, 37 hours p/week, only Monday & Wednesday required in the office.

Key Responsibilities of the Interim Management Accountant:

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Deliver management accounting services, including cost management and ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Oversee cash flow management in collaboration with the Treasury function, ensuring accurate forecasting and proactive intervention when necessary.
  • Conduct variance analysis on month-end reports, identifying key financial trends and working with finance teams to address discrepancies.
  • Manage and review budget and forecast submissions, supporting stakeholders in ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  • Produce monthly management accounts and financial dashboards with supporting commentary to aid decision-making.
  • Perform reviews and reconciliations of accounts, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and external audit requirements.

Process Improvement & Compliance

  • Drive continuous improvement in financial systems, workflows, and reporting mechanisms to enhance efficiency and transparency.
  • Maintain compliance with financial regulations and funding requirements, proactively addressing risks and discrepancies.
  • Disseminate best practices and provide training on management accounting principles, budgetary control, and financial regulations.
  • Support the development of financial policies and ensure alignment with institutional goals.

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Develop the management accounting team through training, mentoring, and professional development initiatives.
  • Build strong working relationships across finance teams, fostering collaboration and sharing best practices.
  • Provide expert financial guidance to both finance and non-financial stakeholders, ensuring informed decision-making.
  • Participate in institutional training events and initiatives to contribute knowledge and expertise to the wider finance community.

Previous Skills and Experience of the Interim Management Accountant:

  • Fully qualified accountant (and significant, recent, and relevant experience).
  • Proven experience delivering high-quality financial services and management reporting.
  • Strong IT skills, including advanced proficiency in Excel and familiarity with financial software (Oracle Financials or similar is desirable).
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to a range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in higher education or research funding environments (desirable).
