Interim Systems Accountant

About the clientMorgan Law are seeking an interim Systems Accountant for a Local Authority in the London area.

Accountabilities

  • Play a role in maintaining accurate and meaningful financial information on the finance systems, including e5 and Collaborative Planning (CP)
  • Ensure the systems are fit for purpose and set up to meet management and statutory reporting requirements (including relevant Codes of Practice) by carrying out regular data integrity review, data cleansing and reconciliation of the core systems, reports, chart of accounts and trial balances
  • Maintain security and approvals in the systems, ensuring adherence to Council Constitution and audit requirements.
  • Ensure finance systems are fit for purpose including testing patches and upgrades. Also work closely with IT ERP Team to resolve issues with the systems, including testing solutions.
  • Contribute to feeding into the closure of account process and production of the year end Statement of Accounts including the management of the internal and external audit processes
  • Where applicable, contribute to implementing improvements and on-going solutions to address finance system weaknesses
  • Maintain and develop relevant financial and management reports, systems, processes and timetables, to enable the delivery of key corporate processes to conform to professional standards including the corporate budget monitoring, budget setting and year-end accounts

Candidate Requirements

  • Fully qualified CCAB/CIMA accountant (E)
  • Recent experience working in local authority (E)
  • Experience in training or guiding others effectively on the use of financial systems and the application of financial procedures
  • Experience in proactively identifying and implementing improvement changes in systems/ processes or continuous improvements within the Service
  • Assertive and strong communication skills with excellent listening skills together with persuasive analytical skills
  • Good understanding of the technical operations of a Financial Management system, particularly of a General Ledger system and its interfaces with other systems
