Your new role - Principal Systems Accountant1, To help deliver the system accounting function under Corporate Finance and play a key role in ensuring full and strong integrity of finance systems. 2, To manage a team of Accountants to maintain and improve the financial systems and processes.3, To deputise for the Process Impovement Manager where applicable.Specific Accountabilities of the Role:

  • Ensure the systems are fit for purpose and set up to meet management and statutory reporting requirements (including relevant Codes of Practice) by carrying out regular data integrity review, data cleansing and reconciliation of the core systems, reports, chart of accounts and trial balances
  • Ensure finance systems (and its system feeders where applicable) are fit for purpose, including testing patches and upgrades. Also work closely with IT ERP Team to resolve issues with the systems, including testing solutions.
  • Contribute to feeding into the closure of accounts process and production of the year-end Statement of Accounts including the management of the internal and external audit processes ensuring that queries are resolved promptly and accurately, and respond to and implement recommendations arising
  • Maintain and develop relevant financial and management reports, systems, processes and timetables, to enable the delivery of key corporate processes to conform to professional standards including the corporate budget monitoring, budget setting and year-end accounts.
  • Support the Heads of Finance and Senior Finance Business Partners in providing any relevant financial analysis
  • Contribute to completing relevant statutory returns, statistics and grant claims, and deal as necessary with Government departments, Partnerships and other external bodies in consultation with the appropriate finance and service managers.

Help deliver key reconciliations for subsidiaries Job Requirements:

  • Fully qualified CCAB accountant or AAT/part qualified or equivalent qualification
  • Demonstrable knowledge of accounting principles, policies and practices, and good understanding of Local Government Finance including year-end closure of accounts and auditExperience of working in large complex organisations, supporting financial systems administration functions, reconciliations and development
  • Good understanding of the technical operations of a Financial Management system, particularly of a General Ledger system and its interfaces with other systems
  • Experience of managing a team to achieve excellence in service delivery and ability to develop and support staff, challenging poor performance and celebrating good performance**You will need to have prior experience working within public sector organisations**
