PROJECT ACCOUNTANT - CENTRAL LONDON

Salary:£50,000 - £65,000 DOE + Benefits

About the Role

Robert Half is partnering with a leading construction business to recruit a Project Accountant/Finance Business Partner. This role is critical in providing financial oversight, reporting, and analysis for major projects, ensuring commercial success and compliance.

This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or actively studying candidate looking to take ownership of project financials and work closely with finance, commercial, and operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

Project Financial Control & Cost Management

  • Monitor project budgets, cost-to-complete, and WIP to ensure accurate financial tracking.
  • Conduct variance analysis to identify cost overruns and work with project managers to mitigate risks.
  • Ensure labour costs, expense transfers, and subcontractor payments align with project budgets.
  • Review and manage percentage completion calculations and projected forecasts.

Financial Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare monthly project financial reports, including forecasting and cash flow analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with IFRS, UK GAAP, and internal finance policies.
  • Perform balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, and prepayments related to project accounting.
  • Support internal and external audits, ensuring financial accuracy across project accounts.

Commercial Finance & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Partner with project managers, quantity surveyors, and commercial teams to improve financial decision-making.
  • Provide strategic profitability analysis and financial insights to senior stakeholders.
  • Support bid pricing, contract reviews, and financial planning for new projects.
  • Assist with forecasting, budgeting, and cost-saving initiatives across the construction portfolio

Key Requirements

  • Qualified (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or actively studying/finalist (study support provided)
  • Experience in construction, engineering, or project-based accounting is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of project costing, financial reporting etc
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, COINS, or similar) and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage non-finance stakeholders.
  • A proactive, analytical mindset with strong problem-solving and commercial acumen.
