Are you passionate about ensuring the smooth financial operations of a school? Do you have a solid understanding of school finances, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities? Join our team as a School Finance Officer at a dynamic school in South London.

This hybrid position offers 2 days of on-site work and 3 days of remote work each week

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Headteachers and Finance & Business Lead in providing value-added, customer-focused business support and relationship management for budget accountability.
  • Assist in financial planning, management, reconciliations, reporting, and statutory/statistical returns.
  • Develop financial competence and ensure compliance in the use of school financial systems by administrative staff.
  • Drive the evolution of finance into a proactive, data-driven, value-adding service with a focus on technological improvements.
  • Ensure accurate transactional postings and maintain the correct financial position in the school accounts.
  • Promote efficiency, value for money, and a solutions-focused approach in budgetary control and financial processes.
  • Build strong relationships with school and Local Authority stakeholders, supporting financial reporting as required.
  • Manage detailed financial operations, including POs, invoices, reconciliations, debt collection, and support for contracts, leases, and licences.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience of working in maintained schools, with an understanding of school accounts.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience in school budget setting, monitoring, and closure of accounts.
  • Ability to interpret financial data, applying logic and judgment.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Excellent time management, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Experience using Xero and school finance systems, with strong IT and Excel skills.
  • Quick learner.
  • Financial qualification (CIPFA/AAT) or currently studying towards one.
  • Experience with Approval Max.
