Butler Rose is delighted to be working alongside our public sector client based in Harrow. We are seeking a skilled Service Accountant to join their team and provide professional financial advice and support to a designated service Division or Directorate. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to public sector financial management and drive strategic improvements in a dynamic environment.

This will be a temporary contract up until the end of June 2025, with office-based working and paying up to £27.60 an hour PAYE.

Key Responsibilities * Deliver expert financial advice and support, acting as a _critical friend_ to service managers while upholding financial best practices. * Coordinate the preparation, monitoring, and closure of revenue and capital budgets for the relevant service area. * Build and maintain strong working relationships with service directorates to facilitate effective decision-making. * Lead or participate in improvement projects and transformation initiatives within the Division. * Provide financial training to service and budget managers, fostering a strong financial management culture. * Produce timely and accurate financial reports, ensuring robust forecasts and risk management. * Ensure compliance with accounting standards, statutory guidance, and Council financial regulations.

What We're Looking For * Proven experience in financial management within the public sector or similar environment. * Strong analytical skills and the ability to manage complex, high-risk budgets. * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to challenge and support service managers. * Commitment to professional development and keeping up with best practices. * A proactive, detail-oriented approach with a focus on continuous improvement.
