Role Overview:

The Accounts Assistant will report directly to the Financial Controller, joining a welcoming finance team of nine, led by a highly supportive Finance Director. This role is ideal for a candidate seeking to manage their workload and foster relationships with internal clients and external suppliers, with the assurance of managerial support when needed.

The primary responsibility of this role is to deliver a high-quality, professional service by ensuring the timely payment of Partner and Staff expenses, as well as supplier invoices. Additionally, the successful candidate will support the team and develop their skill set.

Within this collaborative team environment, there will be ample opportunity to deepen knowledge of legal finance by assisting and providing cover for Cashiers and the Biller as required, with guidance from senior team members.

Responsibilities:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Process and payment of supplier invoices
  • Reconciliation of supplier statements
  • Payment of disbursements in line with SRA regulations
  • Regular processing and payment of Staff and Partner expenses
  • Direct communication with internal clients and external suppliers to address queries
  • Allocation and reconciliation of corporate credit card charges
  • Ad hoc duties as directed by the Financial Controller or Finance Director

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Providing cover for various finance roles, including:
    • Matching and processing receipts (Office Cashier)
    • Checking and processing Counsel fees and disbursements (Office Cashier)
    • Maintenance and posting of direct debits and standing orders (Office Cashier)
    • Receipts and payments into Client Account (Client Cashier)
    • Internal transfers (Client Cashier)
    • Processing pro-formas received (Billing)
    • WIP write-offs/transfers (Billing)
    • Matter closures (Billing)

Experience and Skills Required:

  • Experience in a professional services environment; legal experience is advantageous but not essential
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage conflicting priorities effectively
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Confident communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to build rapport at all levels
  • Experience with accounting software, such as 3E, is preferred but not required
  • A proactive team player, flexible in supporting colleagues
  • Understanding of SRA regulations and VAT considerations would be beneficial but is not mandatory
