Assistant Accountant

Temporary for the first 4-6 weeks with a view to go Permanent for the right person
Pay £19.90 per hour plus £2.40 per hour holiday pay (equivalent to £33,058.66 plus London weighting of £3,160.44 per annum)
Location: Victoria, London
Hybrid set up: Office based 5 day per week (during temporary placement). Permanent contract offers hybrid set up of 3 days per week in the office.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm, 35 hours per week. Flexibility offered around the core hours of 10am-4pm.

Charity People are partnering with a UK-based Trade Union that represents professionals across various sectors, including engineering, technology, science, and public services. As an Assistant Accountant, you will be reporting to the Head of Finance and play a crucial role in supporting payroll, managing branch accounts, and assisting in preparation of management accounts, budgets, and forecasts.

This is an excellent development role, with plenty of learning opportunities. A previous team member in this role has since been promoted, showcasing the potential for growth.

The finance team consists of 11 members who support each other and maintain a friendly, collaborative atmosphere. We're looking for someone who is hardworking, proactive, and ready to contribute to the team's success.

Key Responsibilities:
* Assist in payroll processing and income reconciliation.
* Manage and reconcile branch accounts and nominal accounts on Sage.
* Prepare and analyse data for budgeting, forecasting, and management accounts.
* Support VAT submissions and year-end statutory accounts.
* Attend meetings and provide financial analysis to budget holders.

Essential Requirements:
* Qualified AAT or part-qualified ACA/ACCA.
* Strong knowledge of finance procedures and double-entry bookkeeping and experience of assisting with budgeting, reconciliations, and management accounts.
* Experience with Excel (VLOOKUPs, formulas, pivot tables, charts) and have used at least two finance systems in the past such as Sage 200 or similar.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills.
* A hardworking and dedicated team player with a positive work ethic.

Interview Process:
* As part of the interview, there will be a 20-minute Excel test focusing on basic accounting (debits & credits) and Excel functions like VLOOKUPs and formulas.
* This will be followed by an informal 30-minute interview with set questions.
