The Role

Manage relationships with a portfolio of Clients ensuring the delivery of high quality advice and service is provided. Work with colleagues and Clients to formulate the shape of future pension provisions, develop and improve schemes offering commercial solutions, specifically targeting outcomes and assessing risks.

Main Duties

  • Design and brand the development of company pension schemes, working in Partnership with Clients to set objectives in all areas of schemes, identifying and helping to overcome the barriers to achieving them.
  • Devise intelligent, informed and innovative funding, investment and contribution strategies for pension schemes while keeping risks at affordable levels.
  • Prepare for and attend meetings/trustee meetings providing specialist advice and guidance in respect of company pensions, investment and or employee benefits, ensuring the events are accurately recorded.
  • Review pension/investment/risk arrangements for Clients, identifying and implementing opportunities for improvement and creating coherent ideas and tailor-made solutions by: o analysing issues from a technical point of view on devising and applying relevant knowledge o balancing risk and affordability
  • Ensure Clients understand the importance of striking a balance between, risk and reward/return to support agreed funding objectives. Making Clients fully aware of the likely consequences of following alternative solutions that may be presented.
  • Maintain strong relationships with Clients establishing and maintaining an understanding of their needs. Asses the likelihood of events and changes as a result of legislation and long-term demographic trends factoring in how the business operates and associated costs.
  • Effectively Communicate, in a non technical manner, proposed solutions, complex technical issues and ideas, to a variety of involved parties, (finance directors, CEO’s, shareholders, trustees, members, etc).
  • Manage Client tasks and workflow using an appropriate methodology in addition to effectively prioritising, delegating and liaising with stakeholders to ensure that Client services "runsmoothly" e.g. realistic deadlines are set, agreed and met.

Person Specification

  • Holds Scheme Actuary Exam
  • Established experience working within pension consulting
  • Understanding of the pension market place, specifically how they operate in various market conditions
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills and building relationships (diplomatic, persuasive and strong listening skills)
  • Good presentation skills and credible with (finance directors, CEO’s, shareholders, trustees, members, etc)
  • Experience of business development and understanding of commercial awareness.
