Japanese-speaking Researcher & Administrative SupportRef: SF46303

The Researcher/Administrator supports the team of a small office whose mission is to support Japanese private industry in securing a stable supply of natural resources to the Japanese market. The London office focuses on mining exploration and development in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA).Capability to communicate in Japanese (written & spoken) is absolutely essential, in addition to totally fluent English. Additional experience of living in Japan and/or working in a Japanese corporate office, and/or knowledge of Japanese business culture is desirable.

CORE DUTIESResearch

  • Regular reading of industry publications and websites
  • Compiling a weekly report on industry-related news (in Japanese)
  • Attending conferences in London (1-2 times per month)
  • Regular oversea business trips to attend global mining conferences; mainly to Europe and Africa
  • Note-taking and writing up reports/summaries of seminars and conferences (in Japanese)
  • Accompanying the head of the department on meetings with external analysts and advisors, and writing up concise summaries of these
  • Relationship-building with industry and government representatives and analysts
  • Attendance of daytime and occasional evening briefings and receptions in London
  • English language checking of research documents and PowerPoint presentations from head office
  • Ad-hoc research as requested

Administrative Support

  • Answering the main office phone in English and, when necessary, Japanese
  • UK cultural understanding and language support for Japanese expat colleagues
  • Correspondence with industry organisations and analysts
  • Arranging travel and hotels for expat colleagues and own business trips
  • Booking restaurants and arranging meetings and business social events with external consultants/analysts and Japanese companies
  • Providing expatiates with support such as data compilation and collection
  • Occasional support to the main office administrator with tasks such as filing

IDEAL APPLICANTICT: Solid skills in Word, Excel & PowerPointLanguage: Fluent business level English and Japanese, written and spokenSoft skills:• Flexible, sociable and cooperative, with excellent language, communication and summarisation skills• Information-gathering and strong networking skills• Reliable person, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks during busy periodsEmployment: One-year contract, with the possibility of renewal (rolling contract).Working hours:9am to 5pm, with lunch break from 12:30pm to 1:15pmSalary range:£25-30K, depending on skills and experience.
