Job Overview:

Our client is a leading MEP sub contractor involved in rail, commercial, retail and infrastructure projects. We are looking for an experienced Design Engineering Manager to manage design and engineering delivery. This is a whole project lifecycle role from opportunity to practical completion and soft landing.

This person will work with Operations Managers in design and engineering delivery and also liaise with the Technical Director ensuring compliance with our clients and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Design Project Management: Lead in collaboration with project teams the MEPh design and engineering process from award to project close, including HVAC, electrical, communications, plumbing, and fire protection systems, ensuring designs comply with project requirements and industry standards.

Sustainability: Meet the company's Sustainability Action Plans, specifically for design.

Project Coordination: Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to integrate building services seamlessly into the project.

Quality Assurance: Conduct design reviews and oversee quality control processes to ensure designs comply with codes, regulations, and best practices.

Technical Oversight: Provide technical support to design teams in projects in conjunction with our Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), ensuring accurate specifications, calculations, and drawings are produced.

Budgeting, Cost Management and Reporting: Work with pre-construction as required to develop the baseline team, cost, programme and deliverables.

On live projects support the management of resources, project planning (design) and progress reporting including EVA (Earned value analysis) thus ensuring projects are delivered in line with project budget.

Risk Management: Utilise the pre-construction TRR (Technical Risk Review) as a basis for management of risks during design and engineering delivery. Proactively develop solutions to mitigate the risks, and any significant risks are to be escalated to the Technical Director for support.

Compliance: Ensure in conjunction with Operations Management that our SMEs are undertaking compliance checks as agreed in the project plan.

Qualifications:

Educational Background: Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering, or related field. Masters degree is desirable.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in Design and Engineering Management evidencing delivery to time, cost, and quality.

Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of MEPh systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, communications, and fire safety design. Familiarity with CAD software, BIM, and relevant design tools.

Knowledge of Codes and Standards: Deep understanding of building codes, safety regulations, and industry standards, including LEED, BREEAM, or other relevant legislation.

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Problem-Solving: Analytical and detail-oriented with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing design challenges.
