Principal Electrical Design Engineer - Building Services
London-based consultancy | Hybrid working
Permanent | Up to 70,000 + benefits (depending on experience)
Are you a Senior or Principal Electrical Design Engineer looking to step into a more influential role within a well-established and technically driven consultancy?
I'm recruiting on behalf of a UK-based MEP consultancy that works with some of the country's most prestigious clients across sectors such as healthcare, data centres, commercial, education, and residential. The team is known for their hands-on technical approach, lean structure, and strong client relationships - often staying involved from concept through to project completion.
They're now looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead design on a mix of projects, support the mentoring of junior staff, and contribute to technical excellence across the practice. This is a great opportunity if you want more visibility, variety, and the chance to help shape the direction of a close-knit team.
What you'll be doing:
- Leading the electrical design on projects across multiple sectors (including healthcare, mission-critical, and commercial)
- Supporting the delivery of detailed and coordinated electrical designs, including specifications, schematics, and calculations
- Working closely with mechanical counterparts, architects, and clients to develop integrated MEP solutions
- Mentoring and developing junior and intermediate engineers
- Playing a key role in maintaining quality standards and driving innovation across the business
What they're looking for:
- Degree-qualified Electrical Engineer (or equivalent) with at least 7-10 years' experience in building services
- Chartered or working towards Chartership (CIBSE or IET)
- Solid understanding of UK building regulations, standards, and best practice in electrical design
- Comfortable leading projects and working with minimal supervision
- A collaborative mindset with a genuine passion for engineering problem-solving
What's on offer:
- Up to 70,000 salary (depending on experience)
- Hybrid working model (typically 3 days in the office)
- Private healthcare and company pension scheme
- A relaxed, professional environment where your input is valued and your voice is heard
- Genuine progression routes toward Associate level and beyond
