Big name, English newspaper website, read around the world, seeks deputy health editor to write breaking health news, longer form health stories and oversee more junior health reporters writing fascinating stories.
This role would suit a senior health reporter with some editing experience, looking to step up to deputy health editor and manage a couple of more junior health journalists, but still be a hands on writer and reporter of a mix of fast-paced, breaking news and longer, investigative pieces. A solid background of working in a fast paced news room is absolutely essential, as is health journalism experience, for this high profile role.
The role:
- Collaborating with the health editor to plan and write the latest health news, insight and expert advice across print and digital platforms.
- Cultivate contacts in a wide variety of health fields, from public health, and government policy, to research science, drug development, surgery, medicine, nutrition and wellbeing.
- Commission, edit and fact check a range of features, investigations, interviews and health advice, ensuring complex scientific information is easily accessible for lay audiences.
You need:
- Lots of experience in health journalism in a fast-paced newsroom, preferably in editorial or senior writing roles.
- Understanding of the medical world, health trends and issues, alongside with a genuine passion for these subjects.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills; you never miss a detail.
- Proven ability to manage deadlines, multitask, and work with a team of journalists, all at speed.
- To enjoy working full time, office based in a busy, buzzing newsroom.
