A busy, pro-active Professional Institute within the Built Environment seeks an Education Officer to work in its Education Department.

CIAT is a dynamic, forward-thinking and inclusive global membership qualifying body for Architectural Technology. It exists as a not-for-profit organisation to lead, represent and promote Architectural Technology and to set and maintain the standards for education, practice and professionalism. The successful candidate will be the primary link between CIAT and students, careers advisors and schools. You will have very good administrative skills with the ability to take responsibility for your own work, be a good communicator and have confidence to represent the Institute externally. The job role includes general administration for the Education Department, acting as secretary for meetings and liaising with university contacts. There may be travel to external meetings outside of London which may require overnight stays. There will be a full induction.

Job Description

The Education Officer is responsible to the Education Executive and Head of Education for the co-ordination and administration of the Education Department. The Education Department is led by the Head of Education, who reports directly to the Chief Executive.

Previous experience of administration in a membership body or professional association would be beneficial.

The main duties include:

  • organising Approval, Accreditation and Centre of Excellence Panels visits with educational
    establishments;
  • managing and attending Accreditation and Centre of Excellence visits as necessary, and
    providing administrative support by preparing papers/reports and taking minutes/notes
    or raising invoices if required;
  • managing the CPD Register and Catalogue as well as ensuring that the Institutes CPD
    policy is promoted;
  • provide administrative support for the Principal Designer Register by checking applications,
    responding to queries and having applications reviewed in a timely manner;
  • supporting the Creative & Communications Department in the publication of the
    aspiration e-magazine as appropriate;
  • responding to queries/correspondence in relation to education, careers and CPD via all
    mediums;
  • disseminating information regarding education policies, processes, updates and so on;
  • undertaking relevant research and collating responses on consultative matters as
    directed;
  • managing and administering other educational activities including (but not restricted to)
    the Outstanding Graduating Student Award and the Education Foundation
    bursary, as required;
  • the Outstanding Graduating Student Award and the Education Foundationbursary, as required;
  • booking travel and accommodation for the Education Departments business trips and
    meetings as required;
  • work-sharing projects with other Departments within the Institute;
  • representing the Institute externally if requested;
  • other duties as required.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a self-starter and be able to prioritise their work;
  • Be meticulous;
  • Have the capacity to problem solve.

General IT skills with knowledge of MS Word, Excel and databases are essential.

The Education Department has a manual which details its protocols. You would be required to ensure it is maintained as it applies to your role and responsibilities.

The Education Officer will be required to travel to out-of-office meetings as directed which might involve overnight stays at the Institutes expense. The Institute has a policy in place for time of in lieu of working out of hours.

[1] The office is available to staff on all working days. There is an expectation for staff to come into the office
on other days if required.
