You will join us on afull time fixed term contract (12 months), and in return, you will receive a competitive salary from £32,200 with benefits, subject to skills and experience.

The AV Events Technician role:

We are looking for an experienced AV technician to join our thriving Events team and be part of the Communications and Public Engagement programme at The Francis Crick Institute. 

This new role will support all aspects of AV for a large variety of events at the Crick and will include some weekend and evening work.   Reporting to the Senior events producer you will provide technical expertise at a consistently high standard, always ensuring that the Crick’s strategic objectives are supported. Events include, but are not limited to, all day conferences and symposiums, lectures, evening seminars, live podcast recordings, public engagement events, award ceremonies, parties and VIP visits.  You will also be involved with any TV events and programmes being hosted by the Crick where in-house technical experience is required.  The role will enhance the already busy event schedule at the Crick, boosting production quality for audiences for both live and recorded events.

Responsibilities of our AV Events Technician:

These include but are not limited to: 

  • Provide AV support to the Comms and Public Engagement team for all events
  • Attend pre-planning meetings to help design and implement AV solutions for events including working directly with external partners and clients
  • Deliver, install, operate and de-rig in-person and hybrid events
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
  • Provide on-site technical support during events, including troubleshooting and resolving any AV-related issues that should arise including assisting speakers with the operation of AV equipment, ensuring they are comfortable and confident with the setup
  • Configure and optimise audio and lighting systems, tailored to different events, and ensuring clear sound quality and appropriate levels for speeches, presentations, and filming/recording
  • Record events as needed using remote cameras and share with the relevant teams in a timely manner
  • Assist in larger scale, multi camera recordings, overseeing sound and lighting in the auditorium

Skills and experience we are looking for in our AV Events Technician:

  • Relevant qualification in AV technology, sound engineering, lighting or related fields (BTEC level 3 minimum)
  • Experience working in the field either academic, corporate AV or live event production
  • Experience with H&S regulations for rigging in an event environment
  • Capacity to work long hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by event schedules
  • Proven experience in setting up and operating AV equipment, including sound systems, lighting, video, and projection equipment
  • Broad and comprehensive knowledge of AV equipment, such as sound desks, lighting desks, cameras and video mixers for live events
  • Strong understanding of signal flow, audio processing, video codecs, and live streaming technologies
