Job Title: Senior Ecologist

Location: Flexible, main offices are London or Birmingham but can be based anywhere from South of England to Midlands. You will spend a couple of days onsite and the rest either from the office or working from home, so can work out of supplier offices across England.

Rate: London - up to 65,580 or Birmingham - up to 61,140


Job Purpose

The Senior Ecologist will be responsible for ensuring that ecological considerations are fully integrated into the planning, design, and management of major infrastructure projects. This includes overseeing the sustainable management of natural environments, ensuring that biodiversity is protected, and mitigating ecological risks effectively. The role also involves ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and contributing to the overall sustainability goals of the project.

Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Ability to lead and manage ecological risk assessments and implement mitigation measures to preserve biodiversity.
  • Strong background in ecology, with a focus on habitat restoration, biodiversity monitoring, and species protection.
  • In-depth understanding of environmental and ecological legislation relevant to large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to oversee ecological aspects of complex projects and work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience liaising with statutory bodies, regulatory authorities, and external ecological experts.
