They have expertise in undertaking complex corporate and property transactions, as well as commercial, tax and trust matters and disputes. With a history dating back over two centuries, they have recently moved to stunning new offices. As a Senior Legal Cashier in the Accounts department, your role is to be part of the team responsible for the accounts of the firm, in particular dealing with client and office account transactions including payments, receipts and costs transfers. Your role will develop "as the person to go to" when the accounts manager is not available.
Responsibilities include:
- Reporting and identifying any SAR breach to the accounts manager for inclusion on the COFA report.
- Assisting our internal clients in resolving accounting queries.
- Assisting the accounts manager on an ad hoc basis.
- Assisting colleagues with general enquiries and routine work; and
- Organising and actively assisting in ensuring cashiering cover over lunchtime periods.
- Ensure the requirements of the Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR) and any statutory regulations are complied with at all times including VAT, HMRC and money laundering regulations.
- Ensure the firm’s internal policies are observed at all times.
- Assist the cashiering team in ensuring SAR compliance, in particular SAR 3.3 queries.
- Assist the cashiering team in resolving complex issues and queries.
- Produce daily bank reconciliations for our main transactional accounts.
- Maintain and update registers for joint deposit accounts and clients’ own accounts, including emailing these to the partnership monthly
- Actively monitor the main transactional accounts via Barclays’ online banking system (Dotnet), identifying and dealing with incoming funds on a timely basis.
- Administering and reconciling office credit card payments including management of the Barclays.
- Key electronic payments on Dotnet (including BACS, CHAPS and international payments).
- Be pro-active in chasing fee earners/partners for paperwork for unposted receipts with a view to posting these without delay, or to identify if there are KYC issues.
- Liaise with the firm’s various banks' contacts with a view to ensuring transactions are dealt with in a timely manner and any problems are avoided or rectified on discovery.
- Identify faster payments, BACS and CHAPS receipts in regard to costs and produce the required slips.
- Ensure all cheques are drawn and banked to meet the firm’s deadlines.
- Check and post client to office transfers.
- Post client to client transfers to transfer funds between matters.
- Check and post client to disbursement transfers.
- Check and verify Dotnet transactions.
- Deal with high end time critical complex foreign transactions.
- Produce and review reports detailing NYP disbursements to be paid out, ensuring compliance with SAR.
- Assist in the training of new joiners and to participate in new joiners’ accounts inductions.
Candidate Profile
- Strong GCSE and "A" levels, particularly in Maths and English;
- A minimum of five years’ previous experience of working in a busy law firm dealing with client transactions along with previous experience of Aderant Expert (CMS) and Barclays Internet Banking (BIB)/Dotnet;
- Strong legal cashiering experience, as well as up-to-date knowledge of SAR and VAT;
- Undertaken professional development with relevant training bodies such as IFLM, AAT, MBL or other;
- Excellent numeracy, communication and time management skills;
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel
