As an Automation Systems Lead, you will hold a senior leadership position within the client, focusing on establishing central automation strategy to drive innovation, foster collaboration, and to elevate our organization's position as a leader in engineering excellence. You will provide strategic direction, thought leadership, and technical guidance to engineering and operational teams ensuring safe implementation of standardised automation solutions.

Develop and communicate a strategic vision for engineering automation that aligns with organizational goals and objectives to drive continuous improvement, operational excellence, and sustainable growth.

Define long-term roadmaps and tactical delivery plans to contribute to achieving company financial targets as part of the engineering transformation

Directly manage a team of technical experts (1-5 direct reports) to support our global sites with identifying cost-effective opportunities for improvement and reducing operational risks

Lead the definition, deployment and assurance of engineering automation and OT cybersecurity standards and ways of working across the businesses, sites, and capital projects.

Ensure our practices are aligned with best practices, regulatory requirements, and organizational goals.

Contribute to the delivery of capital projects globally to maximize the opportunities for Capex avoidance and 'safety by design'.

Manage a global community of practice and knowledge database to provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams, in order to address common issues, provide best practices, and share examples of the innovative solutions from across the network

Manage the key communication channels and messages to the business to ensure continued partnership, support and value creation

Collaborate closely with stakeholders across the organization, including engineering, IT, R&D, product development, operations, central capital projects, EHS, and executive leadership.

Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers, provide guidance on complex technical challenges, encouraging creative problem-solving and critical thinking.

Represent the organization as a thought leader and industry expert in engineering automation through participation in conferences, seminars, and professional associations.

Stay abreast of the latest advancements, trends, and best practices in engineering automation through continuous learning and professional development.

Skills and experience required

  • Engineering degree in electrical, chemical, mechanical, or approved equivalent discipline. Significant experience working in a chemical, oil and gas, pharmaceutical, steel, or other process related manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing and embedding global standardised approach to managing engineering automation systems

  • Advanced knowledge of SCADA/control and automation systems
  • Knowledge and experience applying IEC standards
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and competing demands
