We have an exciting opportunity for an Employee Relations Advisor to join our People Team here at The London Clinic. This role is based at our head office in London (NW1 4LJ) on a hybrid working model, and we are offering a competitive inclusive salary starting at £38,000 per annum.

Established in 1932, The London Clinic is one of the UK's largest private hospitals, with 8 state-of-the-art facilities, and circa 1350 employees where we are dedicated to providing our patients with expert, individualised treatment and care. Our main hospital spans 8 floors comprising of 150+ patient beds and 10 operating theatres, including a Hybrid theatre and two minimally invasive/day surgery theatres. Speciality areas include, General surgery; ENT; Gynaecology; Hepatobiliary; Neuro-spinal; Ophthalmic; Orthopaedic; Plastic and reconstructive; Robotic; Urology; Vascular & Weight loss surgery (bariatric surgery).

Job Description

You will be experienced in providing a high quality and professional ER service to enable The Clinic's management teams to be effective People Managers and to lead a high-performance culture. The post holder will be required to independently manage a range of complex ER casework. This will be in line with legal and company requirements and will include, but not limited to, performance and absence management, disciplinary, grievance, flexible working and family friendly leave requests. There will be opportunities to collaborate on project work and to support the People Partnering team with organisational change plans and lead on less complex projects.

  • Job Type: Full Time, permanent position.
  • Hours: 37.5 hours per week; Mon - Fri within the core hours of 9am - 5.30pm.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To provide high quality advice and coaching to Managers to ensure effective delivery of Performance Management, Disciplinary, Grievance, Absence Management processes as well as Code of Conduct/ Speak Up (whistleblowing) investigations.
  • To independently manage own case load where there are often high volumes of varying levels of complexity, with a customer focus to ensure that matters are handled efficiently, fairly and consistently.
  • Act as process expert - providing very clear and specific coaching, support and direction to managers. Build capability of new/first time managers.
  • Ensure that any cases that require involvement of third parties, e.g. professional bodies, local authorities, police, safeguarding or have additional implications for employees are managed in the appropriate manner.
  • Support on delivery of training/education workshops to build consistency of the capability of managers; paying particular attention to managing a situation effectively to prevent it escalating to a case.
  • Work with Employee Relations Partner and the People Partnering team on employment tribunals, prepping papers and representing the Clinic if required.
  • To review existing policies to ensure that the Clinic is at the forefront of HR best practice and complies with any changes in legislation.

Skills & Experience

  • CIPD Level 5 qualified (or equivalent) Demonstrates strong working knowledge of employment policies, and employment legislation
  • Has independently managed own case load in a variety of People/ HR issues in high volumes and of varying levels of complexity
  • Demonstrates multi-tasking and experience in handling multiple cases and some project work
  • Experience of building strong stakeholder relationships
  • Successful experience of coaching, advising and influencing mangers
  • Demonstrates experience of providing an exceptional HR service
  • Demonstrates experience of working with the HRBP model and providing support to HRBPs
  • Competent with data analysis and interpretation, and using Excel
