Their mission is to solve complex challenges in healthcare, sustainability, and industry by designing novel proteins and enzymes. They are seeking a highly motivated Computational Protein Engineer to contribute to the design and optimisation of proteins and enzymes for diverse applications. This role is ideal for a candidate with a strong background in protein science and advanced computational skills. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to drive innovation in enzyme engineering and protein therapeutics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilise computational tools and techniques for protein design, docking, and modelling to engineer novel proteins and enzymes.
  • Analyse and interpret protein bioinformatics data to inform design strategies.
  • Develop and apply custom algorithms, scripts, or workflows to address specific challenges in protein engineering.
  • Collaborate with wet-lab teams to validate computational predictions and refine designs based on experimental data.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and scientific advancements in computational protein engineering.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • PhD or MSc in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, or a related field (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Strong expertise in protein bioinformatics, molecular modeling, and docking (e.g., Rosetta, AlphaFold, PyMOL).
  • Proven experience in protein design and enzyme engineering.
  • Proficiency in programming or scripting languages (e.g., Python, R, or MATLAB).
  • Familiarity with structural biology tools and databases (e.g., PDB, UniProt).
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with machine learning or AI techniques applied to protein engineering.
  • Knowledge of high-throughput protein design workflows.
  • Strong understanding of enzyme mechanisms and kinetics.
