We have an interesting acquisitions opportunity, working for one of the leading academic publishers of scientific books and journals, who are looking to appoint an experienced Acquisitions Editor to join their books publishing team working across their broad list including, Mathematics and Physics.

This role can be worked on a hybrid basis in their London office, or remotely.

Responsibilities include:

  • Acquiring new titles and new editions of key backlist titles on Maths and Physics titles.
  • Responsibility for the full editorial process from commissioning, manuscript submission to publication
  • Developing new areas to complement the company’s existing focus areas
  • Creating proposals including costing and pricing suggestions; portfolios management
  • Preparing, negotiating and finalising contracts
  • Developing personal network of academic contacts
  • Maintaining positive collaborative relationships with existing/potential authors, reviewers, contributors, key advisers, and potential textbook adopters

We are looking for a candidate who is educated to Master’s or PhD level in a physical sciences subject, with demonstrable experience in academic book publishing, and a track record in acquiring STEM titles. You will have proven ability to build, nurture and manage potential authors as well manage multiple projects simultaneously. The ability to work independently as well as a team player in a dynamic, international environment is essential.
