We are working with a global leader in small-scale, sustainable expedition cruising who are looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Bookkeeper to manage financial transactions and records for their cruise tourism operations

This amazing company are revolutionizing Polar Travel with intimate, eco-conscious micro cruises that connect adventurers to the most remote and untouched regions of the Arctic and Antarctica.

Responsibilities:

Financial Transactions and Records

  • Maintain and update the general ledger, ensuring accuracy in all financial entries.
  • Record and reconcile daily cash inflows and outflows from cruise operations in the bank accounts.
  • Process invoices, payments, and refunds, including customer deposits and cancellations.
  • Track and manage accounts payable and receivable to ensure timely payments.

Payroll and Expense Management

  • Prepare payroll and process payments for all staff.
  • Prepare payroll journals and reconcile to bank account.
  • Settle Payroll taxes and pension liabilities on a timely basis.
  • Monitor and record staff expenses, ensuring they are within approved budgets
  • Reconcile staff commissions and gratuities

Financial Reporting

  • Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including profit and loss (P&L) statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
  • Post monthly deferred income and deferred costs journals.
  • Post monthly accruals and prepayments journals.
  • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Prepare VAT returns on a timely basis for review and submission.
  • Assist CFO with analytical review queries on cruise revenue and operating costs.
  • Assist in preparing budgets and forecasts for upcoming cruise seasons.
  • Carry out ad hoc Finance tasks as required.

Reconciliations and Audits

  • Reconcile all bank accounts and credit card statements.
  • Work with owners and CFO to ensure compliance with industry and regulatory standards.

Systems and Technology

  • Utilize accounting software Xero to maintain financial records.
  • Work with point-of-sale (POS) systems used onboard and integrate data into financial reports.

The person:

  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper, preferably in the tourism or hospitality industry.
  • Proficiency in accounting software Xero and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong understanding of bookkeeping and financial principles (e.g., GAAP or IFRS).
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Knowledge of the cruise or tourism industry, including revenue streams, tax implications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Minimum of 3 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably in the tourism, hospitality, or cruise industry.

The package:

  • A salary of circa £30,000 (flexible dependant on experience)
  • Fully remote working
